Music is beautiful because it not only brings positivity and joy and connects us to people, but it allows us to keep a memory of some of our most enjoyable experiences. One of my favourite things to do when I'm away on vacation is to plug in my earphones and listen to music, whether it be whilst I'm walking down a busy street, sitting in a car or flying in the air. It not only sets the mood (particularly if the music corresponds to the environment) but it almost acts a way of capturing a moment. When I return home, I can listen to the same album or song I played on holiday and remember everything about the trip, the colours, the smell, the buildings, the people, everything! Music is great to calm nerves too, I'm not a particularly nervous flyer but I do have a great phobia of sickness so I love having music as a distraction while flying.
One of my travel rituals and a good vacation starter is having a great song for take off and landing; it adds to the excitement and for me, sets the mood, I want to share with you some of my favourite albums/songs to play whist I'm away.
For a long haul journey:
#245 J Dilla Tribute
Soulection one of my favourite radio stations to listen to, whether I'm at home or on holiday. They play 2 hours of beats and also sneak which I think it great if you just want to chill during a flight or long drive.
Soulection is available on Apple Music or Soundcloud, and you can also download some of the shows from their website. (They have stopped allowing their more recent shows to be downloaded, but if you're a bit cheeky like me you can find a way to download from Soundcloud using an external website)
R&B music geeks will LOVE this one! Ginuwine talks through the creation of some of his most famous songs as well as the early days of Da Basement with Timberland, DeVante, Missy, Static Major etc...
