This year has been rather dramatic, hasn't it? From the number of celebrity passings to natural disasters, to faith-motivated killings, to political controversy, this year was not short of drama. It seems as though life as we know it malfunctioned and that anything that could happen, would happen. The only consistent thing about this year was its inconsistency.
As always, the hands of time keep spinning and regardless how you found this year, the sun will rise again tomorrow and we have to keep moving forward. If 2016 has taught us anything it is to expect the unexpected and to embrace that life is made of both sorrow and joy.
Each day holds a surprise. But only if we expect it can we see, hear, or feel it when it comes to us. Let's not be afraid to receive each day's surprise, whether it comes to us as sorrow or as joy. It will open a new place in our hearts, a place where we can welcome new friends and celebrate more fully our shared humanity. - Henri Nouwen
I started this blog because I was interested in the things that make us who we are, the ways that we conduct ourselves and the experiences that that separate and unite us as people. One thing I've realised is that though we might not all experience sorrow and joy at the same time we will all experience both at some point. The fabric of life is that it is filled with ups and downs, growth and change.
Chapter 2016 is nearly finished and no matter how it went it's all part of our story. So whatever we've learnt in 2016, let it propel us forward to being better. Let it change how we live and how we think. Let's not just stay the same people but get wiser and better because life is about progress.
